CASE Grant Competitions

What is a CASE Grant?

The Community Academic Service Entrepreneur (CASE) grant competition is offered in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, India, Latin America, the Caribbean, South Africa, Countries of Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe to students whose proposals represent the most innovative and promising ways to serve the community while applying what is learned in the classroom to these projects .

The winner of this competition in the United States receives a "grant package" with funding to implement the proposal, a scholarship for the student after the project is successfully completed, a stipend to the faculty advisor, Certificates of Merit for the student and a Certificate of Distinction for the faculty advisor. The project summaries are published on this website.  The amount of funding is adjusted to accommodate the local economy of a country.

Who qualifies to apply for a CASE grant?

An applicant for a CASE grant must be a full-time student, propose an innovative academic service learning project, get a community partner, get a faculty member as an Advisor to oversee the project and submit an application over ServiceBook. The winner (s) keep a running account of project activities and write a summary report at the conclusion of the project. The Faculty member also submits a short report at the conclusion of the project.  Student is encouraged to submit a video and photographs.

Restrictions on the use of CASE grant funds:

CASE grants are only to be used to implement the project. The use of grant funds must be directly related to the needs of a project, such as supplies, space or equipment rentals, etc. Funds may not be used for expenditures that primarily benefit the winning student, such as stipends, travel or tuition. The faulty stipend is to be used for the enhancement of this project and connecting education to community service.
