March CASE on ServiceBook
April N. Abbott of Hobart and William Smith Colleges is the March CASE ServiceBook Monthly award winner. She received $1000 for her project to design and create cages to help control feral cat populations and disease. The Beverly Animal Shelter in Seneca County, New York, is a private, no-kill shelter that relies almost entirely on the local community for its support. This shelter plays a major role in controlling the local feral cat colonies. Feral cats are not only a nuisance, but also a health hazard to both pets and people as colonies spread diseases quickly once an illness is introduced. This project's focus is to design and create new cages that would allow the shelter to not only increase its trap, fix, and release capacities, but also promote a safer environment for all the cats it takes in.
