NORTHERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY

NKU Volunteer database to support "Vision 2015."

Nearly a year after a 63-page,10-year strategic plan for Northern Kentucky was unveiled, its leaders are buoyed by the progress being made on its lofty goals.

A successful childhood development program is being expanded to another county. Teachers are teaching concepts via hands-on service projects. An engineering firm has turned in a proposal to develop a land-use plan for the Licking River area. A Web site to link volunteers and needs is being set up. Northern Kentucky University has dedicated five faculty and staff members to spend half their time on the effort.

And a key source of regional money, the Northern Kentucky Fund, is considering how applicants' projects meet Vision 2015 goals when making decisions on grants.
